TWO TIMES TO PRACTICE
May 22, 2009
I have known this for some time.
There are only two times for me to practice. When I want to practice and when I do not. So what to do on a night like tonight. Exhausted. A long week in a long month or more. Way more personal interactions compressed into the past 7 days then I am used to and hell it is friday night. And I have much non musical work to do for a commitment I have outside my day job.

So what to do.  Pick up the guitar. So simple, but sometimes this can be a very difficult task. Tonight was one such time. Fortunately I have been exposed to a discipline that guides me. After dinner tonight I utilized a concept I heard expressed by Curt Golden, intentional procrastination. Left the dishes, instead of immediate clean up. Ignored the other distracting needs of my home and plunked down on my stool guitar strapped to body.

Was not the best practice I have ever had, but the effort was there. Even spent some time exploring a C diminished scale. Also worked on a couple of pieces that need work.

And now it is 11:15 pm and I need to wash my dishes before I go to sleep.
