Guitar Trio from Seattle release Return to Paradise
Lost Pedro Return to Paradise

Lost Pedro is an acoustic guitar trio from Seattle, Washington whose members are Chris Gibson, Travis  Metcalf, and Howard Snyder. If I only had one word to describe the music on their CD Return to Paradise, I would use “Joy.” Piece after piece elicited good feelings in me. Return to Paradise is a collection of mostly original music with a few covers that is sure to delight, inspire wonder, and make you want to move.

The CD begins with “Rendevous,” a joyful anticipation that sets up the remainder of the release beautifully. “Tormenta de Arena” begins with an urgency, accentuated by the melody, suggesting an ominous event. The musical storm calms with a circulation over  arpeggios. “Monk’s Dream” by the jazz giant Thelonius Monk, provides an opportunity to hear the tasteful solo’s highlighting another aspect of Lost Pedro’s musicality. “Labyrinth” has a magical quality that is reminiscent of the Nino Rota soundtracks of Fellini fame. Images of surrealistic characters flood my senses as I hear this wonderful piece.

Pedro turns on the way back machine with their cover of Consuelo Velaquez’s romantic ballad “Besame Mucho. A refreshing take of this 1940’s hit. Ary Barroso’s “Brazil” is a peppy piece sure to brighten your day. The title track “ Return to Paradise” has one of those melodies that lingers long after hearing the music. The final track “ Butterfly” is an absolutely gorgeous piece of music featuring Igor Abuladze on fretless electric bass. Every time I hear this piece I pause to fully take in the beauty of their music.

Besides performing as Lost Pedro, Chris, Travis, and Howard are also part of the Seattle Circle’s Tuning the Air project. A must see guitar performance if you are even remotely close to Seattle. Return to Paradise is available at live shows and on their website.
